Verdicchio di Matelica | Cantine Belisario

About The Producer

Cantine Belisario is the largest producer of wine from the Verdicchio di Matelica DOC zone. Founded in 1971 the winery is relatively new but nevertheless has 300 hectares under vine. The vineyards all start at just 10metres from the cellar in the Alta Valle Esina. The labels are personalised according the exact vineyard origin despite falling under the same DOC classification.

About The Wine

Made from 100% Verdicchio grapes originating in the company's best vineyards. The DOC zone of Matelica is only a tenth of the size of the higher profiled castelli di Jesi appelation and lies at an altitude of about 400 metres above sea level in mineral rich calcerous clay. The wines produced here are light bodied with good crisp acidity and an attractive citrus zest.

Tasting Note

An excellent alternative to the more recognised Verdicchio dei Casteli di Jesi, this Verdicchio from Le Marche shows good crisp citrus fruit on the nose, with a refreshing, dry backbone. Very easy drinking and outstanding value.

It was OK. My wife preferred it more than me. Not my style really.
